Sauk Valley Community College’s Project VITAL is seeking tutors. Training for tutors will begin on Friday, September 12.
Tutors are critical to student success, and becoming one can be a fun, fulfilling, and effective way to help others. Project VITAL is a tutoring program designed for adults seeking to enhance their reading skills, improve their English language speaking abilities, or obtain U.S. citizenship. This program is for adults 18 years and older who are not enrolled in high school and read below the 9th grade level.
To become a tutor, no prior experience is required, but you must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or a GED. Training is required (12 hours total) in various modalities, including online. Tutors are required to meet with VITAL students 1–4 hours per week, with a flexible schedule. Tutoring is a volunteer position.
Training sessions will take place on September 12, 19, and 26. Each session will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All sessions are required to become a VITAL tutor. For more information and to sign up for training sessions, please contact Ana Lara at 815-835-6241.
