At the recent Dixon City Council meeting, Mayor Glen Hughes was seen wearing a hat. However, the hat did not say anything about Dixon. The hat said City of Rockford.
The mayor needed to wear the hat because he lost a bet. As the Mayor stated, the Dixon Scholastic Team made it to the finals of the Bergstrom State Line Quiz Bowl for the first time. They faced Keith Country Day School from Rockford.
The bet was between the mayor and Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara. The loser had to wear some apparel from the winning team, write a $100 check to the winning school and make the announcement at the next council meeting. Mayor Hughes could not get apparel from Keith Country Day School, so Mayor McNamara provide the City of Rockford hat.
Mayor Hughes said he did not mind losing the bet and it was good they went so far. He also pointed out the Dixon Track and Field Team and the Dixon High School Baseball Team for doing so well. He felt it was good to give the students the recognition.
