Lee County Would Like a Set of Hefty Fines for Companies Who Do Not Follow the Rules

Several solar companies would like to get a special use permit from Lee County to construct a solar farm.  The problem with this is the Lee County Building and Zoning Office is finding the companies who petition for the project are not the ones who are building the project.  This causes problems with the companies not following the county rules and ordinances.

Alice Henkel, Director of the Building and Zoning Office said the Zoning Board of appeals is recommending a three step fine process for those who violate the rules.  The offender would have the chance to appeal the fine.

The three step fines would be $10,000 for the first Offense, $25,000 for the second offense and a $50,000 for the third with a revocation of the special use permit.  Henkel specifically mentioned the proposed projects on Mound Hill Road North and Mound Hill Road South.
