
On Monday, June 2, the Sterling Police Department arrested 26-year-old Kaitlyn Gust of Sterling, for Theft Over $10,000 and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
At approximately 1:45pm officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart, located at 4115 East Lincolnway, Sterling, IL, for a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the reporting party and registered owner of the vehicle, gathered all relevant information, and immediately began a search for the stolen vehicle.
A short time later, officers located the vehicle and Kaitlyn Gust at Oppold Marina, located at 200 Stouffer Road, Sterling, IL. Gust was taken into custody without incident.
Gust has been charged with Theft Over $10,000 and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Both are class 2 felony charges. She was transported to the Whiteside County Jail, where she is being held pending a detention hearing. This investigation is ongoing.
