Rockford Christian High School announced on Wednesday that they will not have an 8-man football team and will be cancelling their 2025 high school football season.

The school’s athletic department cited a lack of players.

The Royal Lions were set to play their first season in 8-man football after cancelling their 2024 season because of low numbers. They were set to play in the Northeast Division. Rockford Christian was supposed to open up their season on Friday, August 29th at home against Peoria Heights.

Milledgeville was scheduled to play Rockford Christian in Week 9.

Schlarman High School (Danville, IL) announced on Tuesday that they will be cancelling their 2025 high school football season.

Schlarman was scheduled to play 8-man football and was a member of the East Division. The school’s Athletic Director and Head Football Coach cited low participating numbers and transfers out of the high school that led to their decision.

They were expected to open their season on Saturday, August 30th at home vs Milford. The other six schools in the East Division will now have an opening on their schedule. If they are unable to find an opponent, the bye week will count as a forfeit win.

This leaves an opening on the schedule for Ashton-Franklin Center who was scheduled to play the Hilltoppers at home on Friday, October 17th.
