The Rock Falls and Sterling Fire Departments have worked together for years. It is policy that when one department goes on a call, the other assists.
During the Rock Falls City Council meeting, the council approved an Intergovernmental Agreement between the two departments. Rock Falls Fire Chief Ken Wolf said this agreement covers all the bases for liability and insurance. He said it is being a friend.
The agreement allows each department to request the loan of equipment that the other department may need. This was shown when the Sterling Fire Department was short some trucks due to mechanical issues, the Rock Falls Department helped them.
The two departments did have a joint command agreement for many years. That was dropped a couple of years ago. Wolf said this agreement could lead to a resumption of that agreement. However, there are no talks currently.
