One Dixon Councilman is hoping to make the country’s celebration of its 250th Anniversary something special in Dixon.

During the City Council meeting Monday evening, Councilman Chris Bishop had some news concerning the event in 2026.  He told the members the city is eligible for a flyover during the Project Rock Pedestrian Bridge dedication on July 4th of 2026.

Bishop said the city would be spending a bit more money, especially on the large flag the city is planning to hang from the bridge.  This flag would be displayed during special events and holidays.

For the flyover, the city needs to find an organization that could do the flyover.

He said the city would attempt to get a $25,000 grant called a Celebrate America Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.  Bishop said they were planning on the city spending $25,000, however, if they get the $25,000 from the grant, they could do more.
