Ever since the Highland Park Fourth of July Shooting, Illinois Law Enforcement have taken extra precautions to help keep festival and event goers safe. Not to say security and safety has not been an important part, but it has increased over recent years.
Lee County Sheriff Clay Whelan said they have begun preparations for the Dixon Petunia Festival and the Amboy Depot Days. Part of the security is the Lee County Emergency Management Command Post. This would be visible so if people need help, they know where to go.
The Dixon Police Department is usually the main organizer for festival security; however, the Sheriff’s Office will be helping. Whelan also said they would be using drones. This would give them a wider range to keep an eye on what is going on.
