This is the time of year when many Sauk Valley students will receive scholarships.
During the most recent Sterling City Council meeting, the Garrett Ramos Scholarship was handed out. The recipients must be going into a public service field. Ramos wife, Brittany Ramos said they have three recipients this year.
Ramos was a Sterling Firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty in 2021. Brittany said the scholarship named after her late husband gives her and the family great joy. She added that what makes the scholarship special is the fact Ramos came up with the scholarship himself.
The three recipients this year are Nico Battaglia, Brinley Francis and Esra Ramirez.
