Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) is sounding the alarm following a proposal by the current Administration to eliminate federal funding for TRIO programs—critical student support initiatives that have empowered generations of college students to succeed.
At SVCC, the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program has provided essential academic, financial, and personal support to hundreds of students each year—most of whom are first-generation, low-income, or living with disabilities. These are students who face significant systemic barriers to completing their education, and for decades, TRIO has helped level the playing field.
“We are deeply concerned about the threat to eliminate TRIO programs,” said Dr. David Hellmich, President of SVCC. SVCC is urging local, state, and federal leaders to oppose any effort to cut TRIO funding and instead work toward expanding support for these vital programs. “Our students deserve a fair shot at success,” said Hellmich. “TRIO helps make that possible.”
