Oregon City Council Tables Plan to Implement Grocery Tax

Earlier this Year, the Governor eliminated the Grocery Sales Tax.  This was an easy decision as the revenue from groceries stays in the community and does not help the state.  This means communities such as Oregon has had to implement the tax of their own.

During the most recent Oregon City council meeting, the members were asked to vote on and implement the tax.  Mayor Ken Williams emphasized this was not a new tax, since people are paying this tax now.

City Manager Darin DeHaan said if the city does not implement the tax, the city could lose between $40,000-50,000 annually.  Some members of the City Council wanted to have more time to study the issue.  Because of this, the issue was tabled until the next meeting.
