The Chamber for the Dixon City Council meeting Monday evening was jammed with friends, well-wishers and family members of the new Dixon Police Chief Ryan Bivins. The first order of business Monday evening was the swearing in of Bivins to the position.
Vice President of Sauk Valley Community College, Dr. Jon Mandrel headed the committee to determine who would take over for the retired Steve Howell. In a statement read by City Manager Dan Langloss, Mandrel said Bivins integrity was second to none.
The committee had two candidates for the position. It was stated that both were Chief qualified. The other was Sgt. Aaron Simonton.
Mandrel said the commitment from both candidates to community policing and comradery was evident. Many on the council expressed their confidence that Chief Bivins will lead the department forward.
